Munising is a city in Alger County, Michigan and serves as the county seat. Located along the Lake Superior coastline, the community sits near the mouth of the Anna River, opposite Grand Island.[3] The population was 2,539 during the 2000 census.[4] Additionally, the city is adjacent to Munising Township, but politically and administratively independent.[5]

According to the United States Census Bureau, Munising has a total area of 9.1 square miles; 3.8 of which is water. The community uses the ZIP code 49862[6][7]. The city has been assigned the FIPS code 26-56200.[4]

GeographyEdit

The city of Munising sits on the Lake Superior coast, at the mouth of the Anna River. Opposite Grand Island, the city is located just southwest of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.[3] Ferry boats from Munising provide tourists with a means of visiting and viewing the mineral-laden and stained cliffs and landforms.
